Chief Executive Officer & President
Stephen M. Smith joined Equinix in 2007 from Hewlett-Packard Co., where he served as Senior Vice President of HP Services. There he was responsible for management of the organizations Consulting and Integration, Managed Services, and Technology Deployment and Support business groups.
Prior to joining HP, Mr. Smith served as Vice President of Global Professional and Managed Services at Lucent Technologies. He has also held various management and sales positions during his 16 years with Electronic Data Systems Corporation, including Chief Sales Officer, President of EDS Asia-Pacific, and President of EDS Western Region. At EDS, his roles spanned sales, business development, operations, acquisition-driven integration, and the management of international growth. Mr. Smith also had a successful eight-year career in the U.S. Army where, among other roles, he was aide-de-camp to the office of the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces in the Pacific. Mr. Smith graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and holds a B.S. in Engineering.
President- Strategy, Services and Innovation
Charles Meyers joined Equinix in 2010, and today he leads the strategic business teams that drive company growth by focusing on the future needs of customers and partners. The Strategy, Services and Innovation (SSI) unit includes Product Management, Engineering, office of the Chief Technology Officer, Business Development, Corporate Strategy and Tech Ventures. Under Mr. Meyers’ leadership, the SSI unit works to optimize the company’s position as a cloud enabler, identify key growth areas, and evolve our services portfolio in response to market, competitive and technology trends.
Mr. Meyers also served as the Chief Operating Officer at Equinix, where he led the Global Sales, Marketing, Operations and Customer Success teams and was tasked with enhancing operating disciplines globally, implementing best practices and ensuring a consistent global customer experience. Mr. Meyers began at Equinix as President, Equinix Americas, leading the company’s largest P&L through a time of significant growth and strong operating performance.
Before Equinix, Mr. Meyers was Group President at Verisign where he led a P&L portfolio including the company’s Security, Communications and Mobile Messaging businesses.
Prior to Verisign, Mr. Meyers held various executive positions at Level 3 Communications, including Group VP of Global Marketing, President of IP and Data Services, and SVP, Softswitch Services. During his tenure, Mr. Meyers helped Level 3 emerge as a premier global provider of Internet and VoIP services.
Mr. Meyers also held senior operating roles at BellSouth, was a member of the pre-IPO executive team at Internet Security Systems and served as a Senior Associate with Booz-Allen & Hamilton consulting.
Mr. Meyers earned dual master’s degrees from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management and McCormick Graduate School of Engineering. He also holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado.
Chief Financial Officer
Keith D. Taylor joined Equinix in 1999 and has served in a variety of roles, such as Equinix's Director of Finance & Administration, Vice President, Finance & Chief Accounting Officer, and now as CFO. Before joining Equinix, Mr. Taylor served as Vice President of Finance and Controller for International Wireless Communications, Inc., an operator, owner, and developer of wireless communication networks throughout Asia and Latin America. Prior to joining International Wireless Communications, Inc., Mr. Taylor was employed by Becton Dickinson & Company, a medical and diagnostic device manufacturer, as a Senior Sector Analyst for the diagnostic businesses in Asia, Latin America, and Europe.
Mr. Taylor holds a B.B.A. from Bishop's University in Quebec, Canada, and is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Chief Development Officer
As Chief Development Officer, Mr. Adams has been responsible for global real estate development and mergers and acquisitions at Equinix since joining in 2008. During that time, Equinix has invested over $7.5 billion in data center development and completed 15 acquisitions including Switch & Data, Telecity and the Verizon data centers.
Prior to Equinix, Mr. Adams led Corporate Development for several public high tech companies including Electronics for Imaging and Adaptec where he led major restructurings. In addition, Mr. Adams has founded three companies and a venture capital fund for direct investment in Indonesia. He has a lifelong passion for international development and has worked at McKinsey & Company, the World Bank and the United Nations.
Mr. Adams has an M.B.A. with Distinction from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in Economics from Cornell University.
Chief Marketing Officer
Sara Baack joined Equinix in 2012 as Chief Marketing Officer, and is responsible for the company’s overall global brand, product and service portfolio, industry analysis, communications and vertical market development. Ms. Baack brings to Equinix more than 20 years of strategic corporate experience, joining the company from Level 3 Communications, Inc., where she served in a variety of senior positions, most recently as Senior Vice President of Voice Services. In this role, Ms. Baack was responsible for strategy, product management, pricing and commercial support, interconnection/regulatory policy, vendor management, network planning and routing for the $1b business unit. In addition to her career at Level 3, Ms. Baack also worked at PaineWebber Incorporated as Vice President of Principal Transactions where she invested proprietary private equity capital in the communications sector.
Ms. Baack holds a B.A. from Rice University and an M.B.A. from Harvard University Graduate School of Business.
Sr. Vice President, Office of the CEO
Peter Ferris has held several senior-level positions with Equinix since July 1999 and was appointed Sr. Vice President of Global Partner Programs and Strategic Customer Development in 2013. Prior to his current role, from 2010 to 2013, he served as Chief Sales Officer. From 2007 until 2010, Mr. Ferris served as President, Equinix U.S. where he was responsible for strategy and growth of the company’s operations throughout the region. Prior to that, he served as the Vice President of Sales for Equinix. Mr. Ferris has more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to Equinix, he held senior management positions at Frontier Global Center, Genuity and MFS Datanet. Mr. Ferris holds a degree in Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University.
Chief Sales Officer
As Chief Sales Officer, Michael Campbell is responsible for the strategy and execution of all Equinix sales efforts globally, including direct sales and the entire ecosystem of go-to-market channel partners. He is focused on implementing strategies to expand the company’s customer base and take advantage of new business opportunities. Previously, Mr. Campbell held the role of Senior Vice President of Sales for Equinix.
Mr. Campbell joined Equinix in 2015 with over 30 years of international sales leadership experience at premier high-tech organizations. He joined Equinix from Symantec, where he ran global renewals and website security businesses that drove almost $2 billion annually. His career at Symantec began after the merger with VeriSign’s authentication business unit, which had previously acquired Guardent, where he ran the enterprise and channel sales teams. Before Guardent, Mr. Campbell led Akamai’s U.S. sales force operations and nearly doubled the company’s revenue in just one year, from $89 million to over $160 million. Mr. Campbell has also held various sales leadership positions at NCR, UUNET, CompuServe, MCI and WorldCom.
Mr. Campbell holds a B.S. in marketing, with a minor in communications, from the University of Dayton.
Chief Global Operations Officer
Sam Kapoor joined Equinix in 2001 from WorldCom, where he held the position of Vice President of Hosting Operations and was responsible for the build-out and day-to-day operations of six hosting centers. Prior to the company's acquisition by WorldCom, Mr. Kapoor served as Vice President of Global Network Operations for CompuServe Network Services and was responsible for the engineering, implementation and operations for CompuServe’s worldwide network. Before joining CompuServe, Mr. Kapoor held the position of Senior Director of Telecommunications for over 10 years at Lexis-Nexis in Miamisburg, Ohio.
Mr. Kapoor holds an M.B.A. (Operations Research) from Miami University of Ohio and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
President, Equinix Asia-Pacific
Samuel Lee joined Equinix in 2000 and now serves as President of Equinix Asia-Pacific, overseeing the management, strategy and growth of the company’s Asia Pacific operations. Previously, he served as the Managing Director of Equinix Hong Kong, where he successfully led the Equinix Hong Kong team in building a strong position for Equinix in the financial services industry in Hong Kong.
Mr. Lee brings a wealth of experience in telecom and Internet services as well as expertise in startup operations. Prior to joining Equinix, Mr. Lee served as Managing Director of Pacific Gateway Exchange (PGE), a provider of wholesale and retail long distance, Internet, and bandwidth services. He founded Telekom Consulting Ltd., a consulting firm offering strategic assistance to network providers in the deregulated telecommunications market in Hong Kong and Asia. He also held management positions at Teleglobe International, Intel, and Sprint.
Mr. Lee holds a B.A. from City University of Hong Kong.
Chief Product Officer
Brian Lillie joined Equinix in August 2008 and today leads the company’s products and services strategy and development as Chief Product Officer. Mr. Lillie oversees the company’s entire colocation, interconnection and services product portfolio, focusing on advancing innovation that’s inspired by customer needs and can evolve to meet the digital economy’s demands.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Lillie served as Chief Customer Officer and EVP of Technology Services. In that position, he worked directly with customers to guide them through their Equinix experience and better understand how to help them succeed in an increasingly digital and cloud-first world.
Mr. Lillie also served for eight years as global CIO of Equinix, helping lead enterprise-wide IT initiatives and developing several groundbreaking products and technologies. They include the Equinix Cloud Exchange portal and API platform, the Equinix Customer Portal, Equinix Marketplace Portal and the Equinix Internet Exchange Portal. Mr. Lillie also founded and led the global Equinix-on-Equinix program, which demonstrates for current and prospective Equinix clients the value of products and services running on Platform Equinix™.
Before joining Equinix, Mr. Lillie held several senior-level executive roles at VeriSign, including Vice President of Global Information Systems and Vice President of Global Sales Operations. Mr. Lillie also served as Senior Director of Enterprise Applications at Silicon Graphics (SGI), where he successfully implemented Oracle ERP globally. Mr. Lillie is a U.S. Air Force veteran, where he served as a Commissioned Officer in several leadership roles in space research and development, satellite operations, and military computers and communications.
Mr. Lillie holds a Master of Science degree in Management from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications Management from Golden Gate University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Montana State University.
Chief Information Officer
Milind Wagle joined Equinix in April 2010 and serves as the Global CIO within the Customer Success Organization. Wagle leads the global IT team and oversees the solution delivery for enterprise applications, information security, and end-user technology infrastructure support for Equinix’s thousands of global employees.
For the past six years, Wagle has served in various senior leadership roles within the IT team at Equinix, most recently as Vice President. In addition to managing the global IT applications portfolio, he has managed large-scale, cross-functional enterprise transformation programs for the company, including designing and deploying process, system and organizational standardization across the globe. Previously he has held leadership positions at VeriSign, KPMG Consulting and BearingPoint.
Mr. Wagle holds a BS, Electronics Engineering from University of Mumbai.
Chief Human Resources Officer
Debra McCowan joined Equinix in 2013 from the Accelerance Group, where she was co-founder and partner. At Accelerance, McCowan was responsible for providing her clients with organizational and systems change strategy consulting services, including leadership development and executive coaching, building high-performance and mission-critical teams and strategic talent management systems.
Prior to Accelerance Group, Ms. McCowan was Vice President of Worldwide Human Resources at Avago Technologies, where she developed the firm’s global HR capabilities and infrastructure, achieving best practices and redeveloping much of Avago’s global HR policies, work processes and people practices. After reconstructing the function, McCowan created a multi-year strategic human resources plan and a HR charter to standardize, globalize and drive efficiencies across the company’s HR function to ensure greater business coverage, support and alignment. She also led the development and deployment of a broad spectrum of HR programs, policies, processes and systems, including a focus on compliance. Ms. McCowan held similar HR leadership positions with Hitachi Data Systems and Telstra Corporation. Ms. McCowan earned a post-graduate diploma in industrial relations and human resource management from the University of Melbourne (Australia) and a B.A. in English literature from La Trobe University (Australia).
Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel & Secretary
Brandi Galvin Morandi joined Equinix in January 2003 and has served as Equinix's General Counsel and Corporate Secretary since that time. Before joining Equinix, Ms. Morandi practiced in the corporate securities group at the law firm of Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian, LLP (Gunderson Dettmer) in Menlo Park, California. At Gunderson Dettmer, Ms. Morandi represented public and private companies in a variety of debt and equity offerings, mergers and acquisitions as well as providing general corporate public company representation. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Morandi held various positions in the field of public relations.
Ms. Morandi holds a B.A. in International Relations and Journalism from the University of Southern California and a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Eric Schwartz joined Equinix in 2006 and has played various senior-level management roles with the company. He spearheaded Equinix’s expansion to Europe, including the 2007 acquisition of IXEurope, and the ongoing integration of Equinix’s European operations into its global business. As President of Equinix Europe, Mr. Schwartz oversees the management, strategy, and growth for Equinix in Europe.
Mr. Schwartz came to Equinix from BellSouth where he was Vice President of IP Communications and led the development and implementation of advanced technologies including VoIP. Prior to joining BellSouth, he was Executive Vice President of Harold A. Dawson Company, an Atlanta-based real estate development company. Mr. Schwartz also is a former member of McKinsey & Co., where he consulted with telecommunications and financial services companies in the United States. and Asia on strategic issues.
Mr. Schwartz earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University.
Karl Strohmeyer joined Equinix in 2013 after 12 years at Level 3 Communications, where he was Group Vice President for the North American Enterprise Group. There, he was responsible for building and overseeing a sales force of more than 1,200 people generating approximately $2.5 billion in annual revenue. Prior to this role, Strohmeyer led the Global Carrier Channel for Level 3 and managed sales teams responsible for more than $1B in carrier and service provider revenue. During his 12-year tenure at Level 3, Strohmeyer held several executive positions, supervising commercial services and large deal teams, overseeing customer operations and client service, and managing strategic relationships with other companies, including channel partners.
Prior to Level 3, Mr. Strohmeyer worked at NetRail, where he was first an executive vice president for operations—during which time he introduced four new products to market and was part of a team that raised $85 million in capital. Later at NetRail, he was an executive VP for corporate development, helping manage the sale of the company. Mr. Strohmeyer earned a B.S. in business administration from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s degree in international business administration from Mercer University.
Chief Customer Officer
Laura joined Equinix in January of 2017, as Chief Customer Officer. Laura leads parts of our business which are integral ensuring Equinix keeps the customer at the center of everything we do. Laura oversees the regional Customer Success Management and Customer Project Management teams, the Customer Care Enablement team, the Global Service Desk team and the Customer Experience team.
Laura has more than 20 years of experience in the industry leading software and IT business operations, global support services, customer experience, revenue management and client relationship management. She thrives in building strong relationships in a dynamic, customer-focused business environment, driving high-performing teams in a “together we win” culture to deliver a best-in-class experience for customers.
Previously, Laura spent nine years at VMware, where she oversaw the Cloud Services business as co-General Manager and Vice President, leading VMware’s Global Sales and Customer Success teams. She was responsible for driving bookings and revenue sales, customer success, onboarding, consumption, technical services and renewal sales to ensure a best-in-class experience as customers develop, adopt, and expand their cloud strategy. Previously, she led Global Customer Experience there, and grew the company’s Global Support Services organization for North and South America.
Prior to joining VMware, Laura led a global technical support services team and mergers & acquisition team that supported over 30,000 customers for Jeppesen, a Boeing Company. Laura spent 8 years working at Lockheed Martin holding a variety of technical and executive management leadership positions.
She is a recognized leader in the industry, receiving a leadership award from the Professional Business Women of California (PBWC) for her commitment to supporting women and girls in technology.
Laura holds an MBA in Information Systems from Regis University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Marketing from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where she played tennis as a Division II college athlete.
Head of Global Operations
Raouf Abdel joined Equinix in 2012, and today he is head of Global Operations overseeing engineering, construction, and operations for the company. Previously he served as Regional Operating Chief, Americas where he successfully led IBX Operations through significant growth and expansion. Mr. Abdel has 30 years of experience in the datacenter, telecom, and construction industries. Prior to joining Equinix, he was President and CEO for OpTerra Energy Group where he was responsible for building the company’s business plan, securing funding and day to day operations. Before that Mr. Abdel was President, Business Markets Group, at Level 3 Communications where he led the company's $1 Billion Enterprise business unit. He also held numerous leadership roles at Level 3 in network deployment, product development and M&A. Prior to Level 3, Mr. Abdel served as VP of Network Deployment at MFS Communications and was responsible for network and facility deployment throughout the US, Europe and Asia.
Mr. Abdel holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Temple University in Philadelphia.
